White Inks

Which white ink should I be using?

Each Permaset white ink has a specific purpose depending on what you're trying to achieve, so choosing the correct one for production is crucial. Read the descriptions of each one below to get you pointed in the right direction.

PERMATONE WHITE is a textile blending white specifically designed to be mixed with other Permatone inks for color mixing and matching. It has a low opacity and for that reason shouldn't be used on dark garments where opacity needs to be achieved. It can, however, be printed directly if there is a certain look you are trying to create. As with all Permatone inks, they must be heat-cured once printed onto your garment.

SUPERCOVER FIRST DOWN WHITE is a textile base white specifically designed to be used as an underbase during multi-color print runs on darker garments. It has great opacity and coverage, along with a quick flash, making it an ideal choice during long production runs. As with all SuperCover inks, it must be heat-cured once printed onto your garment.

SUPERCOVER WHITE is a textile white specifically designed to be used where maximum opacity is needed. It has excellent color brightness and coverage, and can also be used as an underbase if needed. It is the most popular Permaset white amongst screen printers due to its handle, opacity, coverage and brightness. Even though it's a water base ink, SuperCover White can leave a feel on the garment much like plastisol depending on how it's printed and what mesh count is being used.

PERMAPRINT PREMIUM WHITE is an air-dry blending white specifically designed to be mixed with other Permaprint Premium inks for color mixing and matching. It has a low opacity so it shouldn't be used on darker substrates where opacity needs to be achieved. It can, however, be printed directly if you are trying to achieve a certain look or effect. Permaprint Premium should not be used on textiles or substrates that are machine washable, as it will not hold up well and can result in heavy fading, cracking or complete washout.

PERMAPRINT OPAQUE WHITE is an air-dry white specifically designed to be used where opacity is needed. It has excellent color brightness and coverage for darker substrates. Permaprint Premium should not be used on textiles or substrates that are machine washable, as it will not hold up well and can result in heavy fading, cracking or complete washout.
